About the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway

The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway is a non-profit railroad. Its mission is the preservation, restoration and operation of historic railroad equipment for the education and entertainment of the general public. All trains are run by volunteers who are members of the railway.

Founded in 1972, Hocking Valley Scenic Railway offers diesel-powered rides aboard vintage equipment. Take a leisurely ride back in time along the Hocking River and through the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio. Choose between seating in our 1920s commuter coaches, open air cars (weather permitting), 1940 air-conditioned B&O coach or an air-conditioned bi-level car built in 1970. Our primary diesel locomotive, GP7 No. 5833, was built in October of 1952.

The route we operate over, between Nelsonville and Logan, was once a part of the original Hocking Valley Railway’s Athens Branch. The railway merged into the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway in 1930. The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway was able to purchase the current route in 1985, as C&O sold off some of its less-used track.

Time for Quarterly Dues Payment

Troop 700 policy requires all scouts to be current in their dues for Rank Advancement and Troop Outings.
The dues of $11.00 per quarter are due in August, November, February and May. If a scout gets behind in dues payment by 2 quarters, the amount due is withdrawn from the scout account.
Scout Accounts are monies that the scout earns when the Troop has a fundraiser, such as Popcorn and Mulch sales. The profits from those sales are kept in the account for use when Summer Camp or other special outings are planned.
Any parent may attend the Troop meetings and also the Troop Committee meetings which are the 1st Wednesday of every month. (Unless otherwise noted on the Troop 700 Calendar.)
A Treasurer Report is provided at the Committee Meetings every month. Contact the Troop Treasurer, Susan Nichols if you have any questions.
